AB This study was carried out with the financing from the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT), with the objective to describe the characteristics of management, the innovation strategies and the potential for the formation of business agglomerations for the sectors of the textile industry and gastronomic activity in Pilar city. The aim was to know the reality of the region and understand the operational variables that may impede or facilitate the development of networks of competitive companies. The methodology used was exploratory research, with the application of questionnaires to identify and describe the potentiality and conditioning variables of a business agglomeration; evaluate the entrepreneurial and managerial profile and describe the potential of cluster formation in different sectors as well as the analysis of Porter's competitive forces. Also to evaluate and characterize each of the 30 companies in each sector: the leadership, planning, people management, management information system; company resources and the social and environmental responsibility. Little vertical integration and no horizontal integration between the companies were identified. There is a difficulty for collaborative (network) work. The main problems are related to people management, access to technology, and inputs.
