<title>Reactive evolutionary path planning for autonomous surface vehicles in lake environments</title>
<link>http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.14066/3540</link>
<description>Reactive evolutionary path planning for autonomous surface vehicles in lake environments
Arzamendia López, Mario Eduardo
Autonomous Surface Vehicles (ASVs) have found a lot of promising applications in aquatic environments, i.e., sea, lakes, rivers, etc. They can be used for applications of paramount importance, such as environmental monitoring of water resources, and for bathymetry to study the characteristics of the basing of a lake/sea or for surveillance in patrol missions, among others. These vehicles can be built with smaller dimensions when compared to regular ships since they do not need an on-board crew for operation. However, they do require at least a telemetry control as well as certain intelligence for making decisions and responding to changing scenarios.&#13;
The first contribution of this thesis is the modeling of the CPP using Hamiltonian Circuits (HCs) and Eulerian Circuits (ECs). Therefore, a graph adapted to the Ypacarai Lake is created by using a network of wireless beacons located at the shore of the lake, so that they can be used as data exchange points between a control center and the ASV, and also as waypoints.&#13;
Regarding the proposed modeling, HCs and ECs are paths that begin and end at the same point. Therefore, the ASV travels across a given graph that is defined by a set of wireless beacons. The main difference between HC and EC is that a HC is a tour that visits each vertex only once while EC visits each edge only once.&#13;
The second contribution of this work is the development of an online learning strategy using the same model but considering dynamic contamination events in the Lake. Dynamic events mean the appearance and evolution of an algae bloom, which is a strong indicator of the degradation of the lake. The strategy is divided into two-phases, the initial exploration phase to discover the presence of the algae bloom and next the intensification phase to focus on the region where the contamination event is detected. This intensification effect is achieved by modifying the beacon-based graph, reducing the number of vertices and selecting those that are closer to the region of interest. The simulation results reveal that the proposed strategy detects two events and monitors them, keeping a high level of coverage while minimizing the distance traveled by the ASV. The proposed scheme is a reactive path planning that adapts to the environmental conditions. This scheme makes decisions in an autonomous way and it switches from the exploratory phase to the intensification phase depending on the external conditions, leading to a variable granularity in the monitoring task. Therefore, there is a balance between coverage and the energy consumed by the ASV. The main benefits obtained from the second contribution includes a better monitoring in the quality of water and control of waste dumping, and the possibility to predict the appearance of algae-bloom from the collected environmental data.

<title>Adaptive control strategy for restarting GMRES</title>
<link>http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.14066/3149</link>
<description>Adaptive control strategy for restarting GMRES
Cabral Figueredo, Juan Carlos
El Residuo Mínimo Generalizado con reinicio, denominado GMRES(m), es utilizado generalmente para resolver sistemas de ecuaciones lineales de la forma Ax = b y tiene el inconveniente de presentar eventualmente en ciertos ciclos de reinicio un estancamiento o una tasa de convergencia lenta.&#13;
Este trabajo presenta una formulación de control del GMRES(m) e introduce algunas estrategias de adaptación para evitar el estancamiento y acelerar el algoritmo de GMRES(m). Una regla de control cambia la estructura del GMRES(m) cuando se detecta el estancamiento y al mismo tiempo varía el parámetro de reinicio para modificar el subespacio Krylov. Esta estrategia hace que el control adaptativo sea competitivo desde el punto de vista de evitar el estancamiento y permitir la aceleración de la convergencia con respecto al número de iteraciones y el tiempo de cálculo. Por lo tanto, se observa que la versión de control adaptativo del GMRES(m) en la etapa apropia-da mejora la tasa de convergencia y robustez del método, incluso para los problemas difíciles. Los experimentos computacionales corroboran los resultados teóricos.; The Restarted Generalized Minimal Residual, denoted as GMRES(m), normally used for solving linear system of equations of the form Ax = b has the drawback of eventually presenting at certain re-starting cycles a stagnation or slowdown rate of convergence.&#13;
This work presents the feedback control formulation for GMRES(m) and introduces some adaptive strategies to avoid the stagnation and speed up the algorithm of GMRES(m). A control rule changes the structure of the GMRES(m) when the stag-nation is detected and simultaneously varies the restarting parameter to modify the Krylov subspace. This strategy makes the adaptive control competitive from the point of view of avoiding the stagnation and acceleration the convergence with respect to the number of iterations and the computational time. Therefore, it is observed that the adaptive control version of GMRES(m) in the appropriate stage improves the rate of convergence and robustness even for the most difficult problems. Computational experiments corroborate the theoretical results.

<description>Análisis de la percepción y propuesta metodológica para una educación ambiental participativa
Dickel Tischler, Vanesa Juliet
El hombre posee la capacidad de aprender y con ello evolucionar, siendo un enfoque dado cada vez más direccionando hacia el modernismo, el uso de la tecnología y la industrialización, influyendo el aprendizaje desde edades tempranas en donde se desarrolla su carácter, los intereses, conocimientos, hábitos, etc., influyendo este periodo en lo que se será en la edad adulta. Se busca una sociedad consciente e informada sobre temas ambientales, sus problemas y respectivas soluciones, ayudando a generar ciudadanos partícipes en su comunidad, formando parte activa en la resolución de conflictos, generando y fomentando la formación de ciudadanos responsables con su medio. La investigación contempló a dos grupos de estudiantes de EEB (Educación Escolar Básica) del tercer ciclo, de la zona urbana y rural, donde en una primera intervención se dio énfasis al conocimiento, percepción, gestión, sensibilidad y comportamiento ambiental, siempre enfocado a la percepción de los estudiantes. Igualmente, fue aplicado, a los mismos grupos, una serie de actividades con modelos didácticos distintos mediante una serie de encuestas valoradas por los estudiantes. Así también, fue realizada una encuesta a docentes que imparten la asignatura de ciencias naturales en EEB del tercer ciclo. Con estos datos, a partir de un análisis de los planes de&#13;
The man can learn and thus evolve, being a given approach increasingly directing towards modernism, the use of technology and industrialization, influencing learning from early ages, time when their character develops, interests, knowledge, habits, etc., influencing this period in what will be in adulthood. A conscious and informed society is sought on environmental issues, their problems and respective solutions, helping to generate citizens participating in their community, being an active part in the resolution of conflicts, generating and promoting the formation of responsible citizens with their environment. The research contemplated two groups of BSE students of the third cycle, from the urban and rural areas, for the first time a general survey to knowledge, perception, management, environmental sensitivity and environmental behavior, being important for the assessment and obtaining the perception of them. A series of activities with different didactic models was applied to the same groups through a series of surveys valued by the students. Likewise, it was applied to teachers of natural sciences of EEB of the third cycle. With these data, by an analysis of the curricula and observing the suggested didactic models, it pretends to respond to one of the shortcomings evidenced in the present investigation as well as in previous investigations, which is the lack of interest of the students, looking through this a methodological tool that allows to work on it to promote citizens aware and involved with their environment.
