Digitalización y acceso abierto de la colección tipo del herbario histórico de la Sociedad Científica del Paraguay

Abstract

Los Herbarios constituyen la referencia más importante para los estudios de los tipos nomenclaturales ya que se consideran como la base de la taxonomía vegetal. La conservación de herbarios constituye uno de los problemas más importantes en el tiempo y ello implica proteger y mantener las colecciones de plantas en condiciones adecuadas que permitan su estudio y uso futuro. El Herbario Histórico de la Sociedad Científica del Paraguay (SCP), registrado en el Index Herbariorum con las siglas SCP, resguarda colecciones botánicas fundamentales para el estudio taxonómico y la conservación del patrimonio vegetal de Paraguay. Con el objetivo de preservar este acervo y facilitar el acceso a la información, se ha iniciado su digitalización sistemática. A la fecha, se han escaneado poco más de 3.100 ejemplares, incluyendo 31 especímenes tipo y el neotipo de Stevia Rebaudiana (Bertoni) Bertoni. Esta iniciativa no solo permite el acceso remoto a ejemplares únicos como el holotipo de Pavonia restiaria Bertoni, sino que también se alinea directamente con los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible de la Agenda 2030.

Herbaria represent the most important reference for nomenclatural type studies, as they are considered the foundation of plant taxonomy. The conservation of herbaria remains one of the most significant long-term challenges, as it involves protecting and maintaining plant collections under appropriate conditions to ensure their future study and use. The Historical Herbarium of the Sociedad Científica del Paraguay (SCP), registered in the Index Herbariorum, safeguards botanical collections that are fundamental for taxonomic research and the conservation of the national plant heritage. In order to preserve this legacy and facilitate access to its information, a systematic digitization process has been initiated. To date, slightly more than 3,100 specimens have been scanned, including 31 type specimens and the neotype of Stevia rebaudiana (Bertoni) Bertoni. This initiative not only enables remote access to unique specimens such as the holotype of Pavonia restiaria Bertoni, but also directly aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda.
